Southeast Asia is home to some of the most unique and affordable activities in the world. While tourists tend to recognize the region for its opportunities to temples hop, sunbathe on pristine beaches, and sample delicious cuisines– there are a number of other fun and unique bucket list activities to explore.
Get creative and imagine what life may be like as a duck leader in Vietnam, a mahout in Thailand, or a motorbike driver weaving through the mountains on the China/Vietnam border. Imagine what it’s like to spend a chunk of your life discovering the underwater world or sailing down the Mekong River from Thailand to Laos.
Now… stop imagining and go see what these lives are actually like!

These Are 5 Of The Best Activities You Can Find In Southeast Asia
1. Elephant Sanctuary
Visiting elephants in Thailand is a MUST for any Southeast Asia itinerary.
There is nothing quite like experiencing hands on interaction with Asian elephants out and about in their habitat.
Most sanctuaries will allow guests to feed and bathe the elephants after an introduction to the facility and the life and history of the Asian Elephant.
Yell “Bon Bon!” to encourage the elephant to open their mouth and place the banana right in, or simply hold out the banana and wait for their trunks to snatch it right out of your hand!
Join the elephants for a mud bath and enjoy watching the gentle giants interact with one another. Elephants are animals who are community driven, and it is one of the most beautiful things to witness!
Animal tourism is a very sensitive topic and it is important to do research before participating in any sort of animal based activities. Make the most informed decision possible to avoid causing harm. (Definitely never visit a “sanctuary” where riding is practiced).
